What is aeration?

Aeration is the process of mechanically removing small plugs of thatch, which allows air, water and fertilizer to better reach the roots. This stimulates root growth to create healthier, stronger grass.

When's the best time to aerate?

The fall and spring are the best times to aerate. In the fall you want to aerate between August and November. In spring, aerate between March and May. Most lawns benefit from annual aeration.

What are the benefits?

Aeration can help make your lawn healthier and reduce its maintenance requirements through these means:

  • Stronger grass roots
  • Improves fertilizer uptake and use
  • Reduces water runoff and puddling
  • Enhances water intake by the plant
  • Improves resiliency and cushioning
